We woke up and decided to take this little man to see Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
He was a great movie-goer...his sister not so much...but it was fun to do together and Brody has been talking about this movie for weeks. He is currently on a dinosaur kick.
We came home in time for naps for the kids, cooking for mom, and yard work for dad. It was a busy couple of hours (for the parents, who wished they could nap like the kids!) Then off to a bbq and swimming at Tim's house. Tim is a family friend and a co-owner of the company Brandon works for...the other owner is known around here as grandpa. Tim's house and pool are beautiful - he is right on Lake Lewisville. It was fun to swim and watch all the boats and skiing in the background. My mom and I both commented on how we love the smell of boat gas - I think it reminds us of our own Lake memories from years ago.

I've never seen her smile so big while in the water!

We had some yummy steaks, macaroni salad, corn on the cob and veggies, with red white and blue flag jello. It was delicious - we even topped it off with a few of my latest chocolate chip cookies (story behind these to come).
More swimming and then home for an old-fashioned fireworks show in the street and some homemade ice cream.
The kids loved the ice cream and the fireworks - I loved that the ice cream kept them still during the fireworks!

Ella got as much of the ice cream in her mouth as she could. She licked as much of the bowl as she could too. Still...most of it is probably on her face.
Then off to showers and bed! We have a story for the kids that we've read 2 years in a row now called the Story of America's Birthday. I love it, I love that my kids can grasp and learn about the history of our nation and find more meaning to our BBQ's and fireworks. Brody had it almost memorized last year, this year we haven't been as good. But he knows about the colonies and the tea tax and the revolutionary war and Thomas Jefferson. We are always grateful for a chance to be with family and make memories, perhaps more on the fourth knowing that we are afforded this privelege because of the sacrifice of others. We love our country and the freedoms we enjoy. Happy Fourth of July!

Where did you get the book you mentioned? I'd love to get one. Looks like you had a really nice holiday.
Cindy - Theresa bought it at the JFK Museum in Dallas - but here is the info & I bet you can get it on Amazon...The Story of America's Birthday by Patricia A. Pingry ISBN #0-8249-4170-5. It is a short little board book, but one of our favorites.
Icecream during fireworks is a great idea. I'll have to look for that book too.
Thanks for sharing your 4th experiences. The kids are growing so fast, it's hard to keep up with them. Ella certainly looks pleased with her swimming opportunities, and Brody is expanding his life by leaps and bounds. Now, if they could just get a dinosaur on a train...
