On the drive home we decided to detour into downtown Austin to tour the State Capitol of Texas. It is the largest State Capitol building in the country and the tallest of any - including Washington DC. It has beautiful grounds to walk on and the inside was just as pretty.
We learned a little bit more about Texas State History including why the Alamo was important. Just FYI, even though we lost...(in a nutshell) the battle inspired others to join the cause and fight against Mexico to gain independence. Brandon and I decided we need to find a book or DVD to teach us about Texas history since we know relatively nothing.
We saw more examples of how proud Texans are of their history and heritage. The Capitol was finished in 1888 and even the lights spell out "Texas" if you look close. I thought it was funny that they splurged on wiring the whole building with electricity even though some thought it was just a passing fad.
